The Stewart and Benton families struck a strong business relationship that would manage and direct The Farmers Bank for the next fifty years. John B. Stewart, L. C. Stewart, A.J. Stewart, A.W. Fitzpatrick, L.O. Benton, Jr. and L. O. Benton, Sr. all worked on the Board of Directors. The Farmers Bank has always been a very progressive bank in serving Greene and surrounding counties. In the 60's the Bank was one of the first banks in the nation to offer its customers "Drive In" banking services. In the 70's the Bank was one of the first banks in the nation to offer ATM services. In 1986, Putnam-Greene Financial Corporation purchased The Farmers Bank. This enabled The Farmers Bank to keep its local control but increase its size of loans due to a higher capital base. The Bank continues to maintain its State Charter and local Board of Directors. Today, The Farmers Bank prides itself on customer service with a personal hometown touch. Although times have changed, we still realize that commitment to the well being of our community is our first priority. No press releases at this time. Please check back soon.
